I am considering a new bathtub which is wider than the existing one. To make the layout right the toilet should be moved over about 2" from it's current location. My 2 concerns are: 1. Will flushing be compromised by moving the toilet? 2. Will it be costly to move the toilet such a small distance? Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Habers...

I can't speak to cost because I simply don't know what is under your floor.

What I do know is that there are two options to move the toilet.

One option is a simple OFFSET FLANGE... if you have enough height to accommodate the installation of an offset flange it should be pretty easy/quick to install one of these and the job shouldn't be too expensive.

Option 2 involves having to cut out some of the plumbing and relocating the pipes where you want them. Depending on the piping material (cast iron, copper or PVC/ABS plastics) this can be a huge undertaking.

The fact here is that you need a plumber to pop in and take a look to determine the best course of action. If possible, have the toilet pipes accessible or plan to have the plumber lift the toilet off so they can tell you if the offset flange will work here.

Finally, an offset flange usually works just fine, so you shouldn't need to worry about flushing issues with them, OK?

More questions? Let me know...
