I heard about the recent ruling in defense of Euthanasia in Oregon. How would one go about arranging this if one wasn't a resident of the state? Would you have to move there?

An Oregonian must have a terminal illness and be supervised by a physician.

Such a ruling in Oregon would not require other places to conform their law to that of Oregon, so, yes. If you want to take advantage of such a ruling you would have to be there.

You hope to be the assistor or the assistee?Hello lawyer:

If somebody asked me to assist, I would.. But, I'm talking about me. I'm SOOOOO thrilled that I live in a state that recognizes my sovereignty over my own body. Well, at least to SOME extent... I find it pretty strange that the state won't let me smoke pot, but they'll let me do myself in... But, I digress...

What I DON'T want to do, is hang on to life just for the sake of hanging on. I've been in prison... Being imprisoned in a body that doesn't work any more, and NEVER will again, is a hell that I CHOOSE to avoid... When it's my time, I'll know it, and I'll celebrate my passing. I've had a good life...

For those with a terminal illness ( not mental illness) and their life functions are about to stop, I agree.

But to answer the question, yes you have to move there. But you are going to die, does it matter where you live to die

And yes excon it is silly you can't smoke pot ( legally anyway) Not that you or I or anyone would do it illegally of course.

I would love to see this implemented world wide. My mom had terminal cancer, she was told there was no hope, and we all knew she wouldn't be with us long. She was only with us for 3 weeks after she found out she was terminal, but the 10 months before that were pure hell. She was a shadow of the woman she was when she first found out she had cancer.

Near the end my mom and I had a conversation that still hits home with me. She told me that she wished she were a dog so that I could take her to the vet and end her pain and suffering. She found it disturbing that we care more about our pets, and will do anything to end their pain, but humans, they have to suffer until the bitter end.

A dog can't tell you it's time. It's guess work on our parts. We hope that we're doing the right thing for our fur baby, but they can't say "I'm done. I'm in pain. Please end it". A human being can, but we deny them the right to make the decision for themselves. We're denied the right to help them end it.

I'm not saying that I agree with suicide. If you're healthy, then I don't think you have the right to end your life. Just like I don't think euthanizing a healthy animal is right. But, if you're in constant pain and there's nothing the doctors can do, and you know that death is near, then you should have to right to leave this earth on your own terms.
