You may have kidney stones or a hip problem (arthritis?). The only way to find out... you guessed it... is to visit your doctor.

Please be more precise.
Unfortunately it sounds like a very common muscle strain and could be one of several large muscles that go down the back. Have someone feel them to see if any on that side are taut. It can also be a pinched nerve, and that can also be caused by a tense tight muscle. The usual response of doctors is to apply moist heat, whirlpool, sleep on your back with pillows under your knees, and do very gentle exercises of the tai chi variety. Check the soles of your shoes for irregular wear. Take aspirin/tylenol/ibuprofin/NSAIDs. Apply a heat bandage or icy hot pad. If nothing works, then see a doctor or chiropractor. Connective tissue (fascia/tendons/ligaments) can get torn in some cases, and they are difficult to repair. (I prefer chirpractors for this sort of thing.)

If the pain comes and goes and is very sharp at times, sounds like a Kidney stone.
