My whirlpool senseon dryer stops when I place a heavy load in it. I receive an error code of E1. It will run without clothes in it. I can hear a sound clanging from outside the dryer tub while it is turning.

The only way to know what is wrong is to take it apart. If it is under warranty you can get a tech to take it apart. Look at these videos to see how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5hVeShxLkc&feature=fvst

There are many of these videos that explain in detail how to do it. Make sure to unplug drier and move it to a garage where you will have plenty of space to work on it. While you have it apart clean it very well and wash out all of the parts that move air including the blower. Vacuum out motor and put in a new belt if it's more than a year old. Get some white lithium grease (Hi-temp grease) and grease all bearings, too. Most repairs to these driers are very easy. DrTom4444

You don't have to go that crazy looking for the problem. It is simple. The machine is telling you what is wrong by giving you an error code of f-1 or e-1. Which will usually check back to a bad control or motor. If what you are saying is true that when you do a light load it works fine. Then it leads me to believe you have bad motor. It will overheat very easily if you are constantly doing heavy loads. Check the website for the error codes fir your machine and go from there before pulling the machine apart and washing it out. It will just get dirty again.
