The warning light keeps coming back on after mechanic has checked and can find no problem. Is this misdiagnosis or could the light be coming on in error?

There is no "error" for the check engine light... if it's coming on, there is a reason for it. You are talking about the Check Enginr Light, correct? Take it to someone that knows what they're doing.
