A friend came to me and informed me that someone was talking amongst other mutual friends of my friend and was informed of someone claiming my son on their tax return and its put on a pre-paid debit card and they are trying to find some one else to use the card for them so that if they do get caught at least they aren't the ones on any cameras nor any signatures of there's won't be on any paperwork . How do I find out if this is true and if so how do I go about who it is and what to do about it

This makes no sense, except for the first part of claiming a child on taxes - couples try to do that all the time to each other after they break up. But what does a prepaid card have to do with this? Someone might be pulling your leg, or you got it all wrong. Try to find out more and explain here. How old is your son, and does he live with you, and do you file taxes and claim him?

Hello p:

Someone claiming your son as a dependent has NOTHING to do with you OR your tax return.. The IRS is the victim here - not you. Let THEM catch the bad guy.

Exactly. You might want to report this rumor to the IRS. Using your son's Social Security number, they might be able to determine if there is any truth to it.

Are they paying tax refunds with prepaid debit cards now? Interesting if true.
