I am a non resident alien working in CA under a TN Visa. I am trying to file back taxes for the State because I was not given correct information from my American Aunt. I need to know what items can I claim for deduction, how much and where on the tax form?
Can I claim these things:
1. Education - continuous education classes, books, supplies
2. Medication - prescriptions, eye glasses, medical exams, x-rays
3. Moving expenses - mileage, U-haul truck, gas
4. Clothing & equipment - uniforms, stethoscope, portable pulse ox... etc.
5. Housing - lodging while more that 50 miles away from home
6. Parking - job search
7. Meals - job search
8. Purchase a car for work but never claim depreciation, mileage

I am sure these are lots more that I have not mention. Where can I find these rules of what I can claim for?

To begin with, you are probably NOT a non-resident alien, because the TN visa is considered to be a work visa, so if you have been in the U.S. since before 2010, you are currently a resident alien for tax purposes.

Resident aliens file tax returns just like a U.S. citizen. Hence, most of the items you have listed are either deductible or have tax credits allowed. Some of the deductions are itemized deductions; some are not.
