Hi, My Kohler CV14S engine on my Craftsman lawn tractor that is hard starting. When it does turn over it idles very low then stalls after it backfires.
Checklist of what I tried:
Fuel getting up to fuel pump -OK
Fuel getting to carborator -OK
Air filter clean
Lightly sanded magnets on the flywheel without removing flywheel.
Spark plug removed and cleaned. Looks fairly new.
Removed spark plug lead from magneto and re-inserted. Thought it might need cleaning.
Ohmed out the fuse and it was OK.

Not sure how to check the kill switch under the seat.

Any one have other ideas to try?

Hi,
Kohler Command singles are fairly famous for shearing the flywheel key over a period if the engine is not idled down prior to shutdown.

Thanks, but the Starter does spin the flywheel OK and the keys do not appear to sheered. Any other ideas?

Found the problem. I noticed the spring to the choke linkage and the spring to the governor were not mounted correctly when I got the tractor back from repair. Now it runs without backfiring and does not stahl anymore. Problem solved.
