Probably so. It's called the Hawthorne effect. It is named after a study conducted in the 1930s involving installation of different lighting within a factory. It was determined that almost any changes resulted in an increase in productivity. When workers feel interest is being demonstrated in them it increases productivity, according to this theory.

Hey! That was right down the road from me at the Western Electric plant.

And fake plants look pretty but don't have to be watered.
