Hi everybody. I need to cool down my CPU. When purchasing a cooler fan, do you have to deal with the compound of the cpu ? Or, is it just screwing directly without risk ?

I use external cooling fans for my laptop. I have a cooling stand with 3 small fans plus one mini fan for the top. They just plug into the usb ports.
You can get the usb cooling tables from Ebay, Amazon, etc. Same goes for the mini fans. You don't have to spend an arm and a leg. The cooling table/stand I got was around $12 free shipping from Ebay and the mini fan was about $4.50 from Ebay also free shipping.

You can spend lots of money if you want but they essentially all run off an available usb port. They do make noise though. I also have an LCD light that I just plug into the usb port so I can see to type at night on my laptop.

What kind of unit are you using? A laptop, notebook or PC that you need to cool down your unit?

I'm assuming this is for a desktop since it was posted in the desktop area.

When purchasing aftermarket CPU coolers, you will need to make sure it is compatible with your socket type, and they usually come as a fan/heatsink combo. Some of them will come with the compound, others will not.

Before going so far as to purchase one, what is it that makes you feel you need to cool your CPU down? Is there something wrong with your stock cooling? What are the specs of your computer? What temperature is your processor running at and what tools are you using to measure that temperature?

I use a PC; I had all the hard installed, I lost 10 degres on the CPU... And my problem is fixed... I also bought a new PSU. Everything works great
