I have a friend that recently got out of rehab inpatient center and relasped (he lost his grandfather and didn't cope well). He gets regulated tested in a drug court program. If he fails his test next week he could spend time in jail. I personaly deal with addicts and know that she just made a simple mistake. She asked me about cathing clean urine into her bladder evenn though it is risky for infections. She wants to take this risk and has on top sought help through counciling to deal with her loss so she won't set her self up for failure again by relasping. Will her method of cathing really work for her? I am trying to support her but do know her going to jail will not be the answer for her

Will her method of cathing really work for her? Hello pd:

Sure, but she doesn't have to use urine... Yuk! She could use some weak tea with just a tad of yellow food coloring.

I'm sure you're just joking.

But really? Very bad idea as the bladder is a sterile environment and anything introduced into it can create havoc.

No, I'm NOT kidding... Yes, putting a foreign substances into your sterile bladder CAN create havoc... But, being found dirty WILL create havoc. In my view, putting stuff INTO your body to avoid being caught is the LESSER of two evils...

What it says, is the drug war is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG and even WRONGER than that!!

See I have to agree with excon with some of the things. Im personaly for illegalizing alcohol and making weed legal. So many deaths related to alcohol vs just weed. The othr drugs are dangerous but to his his own. However the facts are thhey are all illegal and every action has a consequence. Im on parole and choose to stay clean vs takke the risk of smoking weed which got me in to mess in the first place. But excon has a point her going to jail is going to be worse than dealing with a moderate infection. But I just hope it will work. She has asked me to do the cath since I am in the medical field and do it frequently but I'm just needing to know if its going to work for her before I put her thro the uncomfortbility. Urine is actually considered sterile so for a short time I can't see it causeing to bad of an infection how ever I'm almost certain it will. I understan everyone's veiws are different I just care about my friend and will help in anyway before she hits rock bottom and stops caring about anything

Reasons for not using anythign other than urine is cause the ph has to be tested and the creatine level has to be certain to rule out dilution. There's several factors. If the test comes back inclusive they can violate just cause they want to for tampering or theyd retest

But i just hope it will work.Hello again, pd:

It worked when I did it. That WAS 30 years ago and I'm sure testing has changed... But, the way they determined that the substance they were testing was urine, was to WATCH it come out. If they SAW it, to them it WAS urine - except when it wasn't.

Interestingly, when I cathed, evidently I got some air into my bladder. Yes, the cop watching THOUGHT it was urine coming out, but if he would have paid more attention, he would have seen the little weiner farts I was making...

Okay, I agree that pot should be legalized. I mean drinking and driving is much more dangerous than toking and driving.

I drink almost daily, I've toked in my past life and dabbled in stuff that would surprise you. However, cathing in a non-sterile technique, then putting a foreign substance in the bladder can risk, yes I said risk, not only a bladder infection, but staph, kidney and ureter infection, and worse. Loss of kidney and/or bladder. Also, it's harder for women to cath than it is for men.

No, she doesn't want to go to jail, but she should have adhered to the rules and regulations of her probation.

I'm also for actions have consequences.

Hello J:

Jimmy Carter once said that the punishment for a drug ought not be MORE harmful than using the drug itself.

IF the punishment FIT the crime, like a curfew for a weekend, then I would say face the music too. But, going to JAIL is to be avoided at ALL costs.

So, loss of a kidney or bladder is appropriate? That is one of the possibilities in the above scenario.

Look Excon, you know I love you, and I won't argue regarding the legal aspects, but I WILL argue with you about the medical aspects.

Hello again, J:

I'm NOT arguing medical stuff. Putting stuff IN your body IS crazy... But, it's a reasonable response to the CRAZY drug war.

I'm sorry, I don't agree. I like my body too much to risk losing a kidney or bladder, or worse.
