I am filing a garnishment against someone by using his checking account since he is self employed. How long does it take? Does the bank freeze his account?

First, you shouldn't piggy back a question on someone' else thread unless it has a direct bearing on the thread. So I've asked that your post be moved to its own thread.
Second, If you have a judgement you need to go back to the court for a court order on the attachment. You then take that court order to his bank and serve it on them. The freeze would be placed immediately.
