Our garbage disposal stinks. I bought some balls that are suppose to take the smell away but it only lasts for a little bit. Also sounds like there is a spoon or something when you turn it on (metal grinding noise) I have put my hand in and felt around but can't locate anything. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks:confused:

If you can't find any loose objects, I routinely find money, the small pins that hold the hammers are probably worn and you are hearing them strike the grinder plate. They are supposed to leave a small gap but when the rivets or pins wear, it makes a real racket. Look in there with a flashlight and see it the small hammers are very loose. If so, and the noise continues, you are probably going to need a new one soon. $125-200+ DIY.

Before you buy a new one try this, empty your ice maker into a bucket, turn on your hot water and the disposal, then dump the bucket into the sink. Takes about a minute but is the sound beter?
