I work at a hospital and on my day off. I hurt my foot and had to go to the e.r where I work.I work in another dept though of the hospital.while I later found out that my co workers was pulling my medical file to find out why I was in e.r. I never gave anyone permission to do so. I feel I have been violated so called hospital they wrote me a letter and said yes I was violated. Then I was so upset cause the persons who did this still work there I refused to go back.now I have no job and they do.I don't feel the hospital did what the law says. They just made them sign hippa papers again like in orientation and that was all...

What is your question? Was it fair? No, it does't sound like it.

I don't understand why you quit your job. What did you think the HIPAA requires the hospital to do under these circumstances?

Unfortunately you cannot "recover" for this HIPAA violation.

I don't understand. Sure, the person violated HIPAA, but so what? It's an injured foot. It's not as though the person announced on the national news that you had a social disease. I really don't understand why you got upset enough to quit your job.

Is there something you're not telling us? Because the facts you have told us leaves me flabergasted.

I don't understand either. Yes, this person violated HIPAA, but was reprimanded in the usual way. Next would be termination if they should do it again.

Yes, you quit your job, just sounds like a really stupid choice in life. Now you don't even get unemployment.

Just because they violated your rights, does not mean they get fired, seldom do people get fired for just the first offense. They get retrained and warned. That is it.

Next you hurt your foot, not like you had a sexually transmitted disease or something. And to be honest most people who work together seem to find out about injury or illness anyway.

I think you really misunderstood and made a major deal out of a minor violation

It's called "I'm sick of working and this is the best excuse I can find to quit. It's all their fault."
