First you need to find out if zoning will permit a boarding house. Then you will need to make sure than any faciltiy you want to buy or rent will meet NFPA 101, Life Safety Code. You will also need to make sure a building will have enough bathrooms, toilets, kitchen etc. Not as easy as it sounds.

Hello Ben:

I've lived in TWO - one in Denver called the Lodge, and one in LA. The one in LA was right behind the old Ambassador Hotel. Basically, it was an apartment house with a kitchen and dinning room on the main floor.

I don't think licensing for a property like this will be hard at all.

PS> (edited) I forgot to answer your question... The answer is, I don't know... But, you'll need an attorney and/or a CPA in any case, and THEY'LL know.
