My son just got a 1998 chevy cavalier manual, 2.2L. We just had a new clutch put into it about a week ago. Today my son was leaving work and it died on him now it won't start. The starter is just spinning and not engaging. There is an Anti-Theft light that is now on. I'm a single mom and love to turn wrenches, but this thing has me baffled. Any help would be great! Thanks, Jolene

Sorry, the anti-theft light is on I was just wondering if there was something to that too. Ty, we will pull the starter this morning and take it in. Will let you know what we find out, thanks again!

With the anti-theft light on, you might have to take it to the dealer to reset the ECM. It's likely related to the recent work done on the car. Call the dealer first and see if they can advise you on how to reset it yourself.

Insert the red key into the egnition and turn to start position,do not turn over.
If you do not have a red key try disconecting the battery for an hour, this will reset the ecu.

Thanks everyone for your answers it is up and running! I ended up taking the starter off and having it checked one place said it was good, but I wasn't happy with that answer so I took it to our small town parts store. They checked it there and said that it was extending, but didn't have any power to turn the fly wheel. Thanks again, Jolene :)
