It is down 20, this is a old 4" well about 400 feet down, I think it is a pump stuck down there. This is what the next door told me. Can someone tell if I could do it myself.

What is "down 20"?. If the pipe broke off and is 20 ft. down, you have 380ft. Of pipe and pump to get out. If you mean the water is 20 ft. down, you have 380 ft. of water to go through. Easiest thing is to get a long poly rope and tie a big weight on it. Mark the rope in 10 ft. intervals and start lowering the rope until it hits something. You may need a well service to try and retrieve whatever is down there, they have secial tools for that purpose.

That subject has been discussed before on this site. To pull up 380 feet of pipe would be tough enough without the added problem of the broken section, but HK had some interesting ideas on this thread.

I have check the well myself, did not have any string so I glued 80 feet of 3/4 pvc and drop it down the well, I did not find anything down 80 feet, going to hook up a 2hp pump and see what happens,
