I was adopted when I was just a baby and I am now 50 years old and I want to at least know my birth parents if nothing else just their names and if I have brothers and sisters. I have adult children what if they would meet someone and that person turned out to be related to them that would be awful.

Records can be opened in the event of a medical emergency. Are your adoptive parents still living?

You could post all the info that you have on the various adoption websites and see if anyone responds.

There is a sticky at the top of the adoption page talking about ways to search for biological parents.

Please understand that your birthmother was promised privacy and secrecy in exchange for choosing adoption for you. Opening your records could tear her life apart.

By all means search on reunion websites, but do not expect to have your adoption records opened unless you have a dire medical emergency requiring it--as in, you need a bone marrow donor or a kidney.
