Hi, I have infrequent menstruation. When I consulted the gyn 2 months back they diagnosed PCOS.
I am fed up of all BCP which usually all gyn prescribe when I say I hv irregular cycles. At this stage I am trying to conceive and before going to clomid regime I thought to give vitex a try. And taking vitex since 1 month. I got the period exactly after a month of taking vitex. But now I wonder is vitex is good for a woman who is trying actively to fall pregnant. If I become pregnant while taking vitex should I discontinue it after a positive HPT?

This is information from About.com website on the plant based Vitex outlining possible side effects of this substance:
More common side effects include mild digestive upset or skin rash. Other side effects may include rapid heartbeat, hair loss, headache, dry mouth, nausea, rash, itching and bleeding between periods.
Vitex is not recommended during pregnancy. It shouldn't be used by nursing women unless under the guidance of a qualified health professional.
People with hormone dependent conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and cancers of the breast, ovaries, uterus or prostate shouldn't take vitex.
Small amounts of vitex could increase the production of breast milk in post-partum women. High doses may have the opposite effect and decrease the production of breast milk.
Vitex may affect levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. People with Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, or any other condition in which dopamine levels are affected should avoid vitex unless under the supervision of a qualified health professional.

Always best to speak to your doctor or midwife, but Vitex has been used for a long time to help balance hormones and regulate cycles in an effort to become pregnant. Some women do try Vitex instead of going straight to Clomid.
It may take a few cycles of use to see a reoccurring change, and, in most cases, should be stopped if you become pregnant. As tickle's information stated, it needs to be monitored. Odds are your progesterone levels are lower than average and your doctor may suggest either continuing the Vitex or switching to a progesterone supplement in the early weeks of pregnancy.
Gather as much information as you can and discuss it with your care provider.
