Greetings,

My house has a grinder ejector pump in a 300 gal tank that ejects the sewage to the city drains a couple hundred feet away from my house. Lately the tank has been overflowing and when I open the tank and tap on the lower float, it will start to work. The lower float is larger than the upper' Alarm' float, it is gray, and I am assuming, a mercury float. The float is clean, but it appears to have a burn mark, or discoloration of some kind on it. Since the pump will work fine if I jiggle this float, I also am assmuing that the float is now defective.

Big Question

Can this float be replaced without replacing the entire pump? Is this a do it yourself type of project or is it the type of repair best left to the professionals? If a professional comes in to replace just the float, any idea on cost of the proect?

Thanks very much for any input. It is very much appreciated.

Is the float inline with the pump or a separate line that the pump plugs into?
