My French boyfriend has recently become my French fiancé, but I'm American. We want to get married and France and live THERE versus America. I'd really love it if someone could clear things up for me. I've been to multiple web sites, but they all tend to be a little different. We don't care about HIM being able to live here as a citizen, he can't because he's in the French Navy with oaths. But how do I the American gain French citizen ship? Do I have to send papers to any consolates telling of our marriage plans?
 I feel so clueless, please help clear all this up someone. Thanks so much.

It is relatively easy to do if you are in France. It doesn't much matter where the marriage takes place, both countries will recognize it. It is easy to get French residency card if you are married to a French citizen... the paper work can be filed at the prefecture of the department in which you live. It is easier OUTSIDE of the large metropolitan areas, but the best thing would be to consult a jurist to do the steps in the right order, as you DON'T want to screw up the process. Once you mess up it is very difficult to fix. I can provide a good contact in Paris that is bilingual... I used him and it was worth the cost. Other than that, the French consulate should give you the right information at no cost. Check the website.
