How do I solve the following error in my DVD rom , I'm using windows 7 on dell

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I tried reinstalling the driver but that didn't work. I've found solutions (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772156(WS.10).aspx) but they are for vista and xp, will it work in windows 7 as well ?

In most cases, Vista solutions will work in 7 also. But it is smart to ask, just as you have. The above link is to MS's tech support and they list a more simplified breakdown of the steps to take to try to fix the issue.

How exactly did you reinstall optical drive drivers? Did you do it from Device Manager? Is your optical drive IDE or Sata?
