I have a ceiling fan in my office, one day I pulled the chain of the fan and later on I realized that it wouldn't turn off so I figured it was a bad pull chain. The fan operates only using the pull chains, no remote and no switch in the room. I had bought the house about a year and a half prior so I just figured the fan was old and I replaced it with a brand new fan and I'm still having the same problem. The light turns on and off normally using the pull cord, but the fan does not... I'm assuming it is the wiring in the ceiling where the problem is and I just need to call an electrician? Any suggestions? How much should that realistically cost to fix?

Sorry, but we are prohibited from suggesting prices. Services are billed differently throughout our nation.

Do you have a voltmeter? There could be a couple of things going on here.

Right now, the most probable failure would be in the connections between the breaker for this circuit and the fan.

Was the wire in the ceiling a three wire circuit or a two wire?

If it was a Black - White - with a bare ground then I would expect the following to be true.

The fan's black (fan) and blue (usual color for light conductor) to be connected to the supply black.

White would be connect to the fan's white and the bare ground to either the green conductor on the fan or the bare conductor.
