Hello s:

If he's in jail, 72 hours. If he's not, the SOL, depending on how much the theft is, is probably two or three years.

It appears to be five years.

Section 5552 - Title 42 - JUDICIARY AND JUDICIAL PROCEDURE (http://www.legis.state.pa.us/WU01/LI/LI/CT/HTM/42/00.055.052.000..HTM)

(a) General rule.--Except as otherwise provided in this subchapter, a prosecution for an offense must be commenced within two years after it is committed.

(b) Major offenses.--A prosecution for any of the following offenses must be commenced within five years after it is committed:Hello again, lawyer:

If you believe the OP was talking about a major offense, you'd be right... I, however, think he was talking about shoplifting. The SOL could even be LESS than I suggested.

A felony is serious.Hello again, lawyer:

It is, but you again assume that this particular "retail theft" is synonymous with how the law words the crime of "retail theft". But, I'll bet they have a category somewhere for petty theft, which is what I still believe the OP is accused of doing... That should be a misdemeanor.
