Hi! I have a kind of weird situation, but I ended up panicking one day at a retail store and splitting with a $15 dollar ring. OF COURSE I was caught, how could I have been so stupid? But anyway, I'm 15 years old, and I feel so terrible, because I had plans to study abroad and I feel like is going to affect me for the rest of my life in a big way! My court date in in about 2 months and I'm wordering if this is going to ruin my life forever! Is there a way I could be discharged or I could join a type of diversion program or something? Jeez, I feel terrible... what a lesson to learn, I don't recommend it under any circumstances!

Hello m:

No one knows how it's going to turn out. If you want the BEST result possible, hire a good criminal lawyer.

ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

Have you told your parents? Depending on your location there may be a diversion program which will allow the charges to be dismissed after community service is done.

I live in New Brunswick, Canada, and I'm meeting with my school's guidance counselor tomorrow, maybe there is some sort of diversion program I could work with... the thought of a record makes me so depressed! My parent know, they picked me up from the police.

I don't know how the site works... do I have to "comment" to send messages to you?

Canadian law does offer a diversion program. You apply for it when you go to court.

Just use the Answer options not Comments.
