I just had an old washing machine disconnected in a house I am upgrading. The house was built in the 50s and the washing machine drain (1") was connected to another black rubber drain hose (about 1 1/4) which is buried in the dirt under the crawl space. I found the other end of that drain about 50 ft from the house down a hillside. The house has a septic system, but the washing machine bypasses that system. There are no restrictions preventing this type of drain in this area. I want to have a standpipe inside the laundry room. How do I connect the PVC material back into that old black rubber 1 1/4 hose?

With a rubber connector with hose clamps (generally Fernco brand) available in all possible diameters at any lumberyard. It goes on the outside of both, no glue.

Will I get a backup due to the small size of the black rubber hose? The new washers say have a 2" minimum drain.
