If a physician is hired as a salaried employee, what rights does the physician have concerning "comp" time? This physicial works 10 to 14 hours Monday through Friday and 4 to 6 hours most Saturdays and Sundays. If the physician needs a day off during the week, then a PPL day must be used. If attending a conference, again it comes out of the PPL days. Since there are no scheduled patients on certain holidays, again PPL is used (even if the physician is in the office dictating on the day). I know that the rules about overtime and such do not apply to professionals such as physicians and executives, but surely they cannot be expected to "donate" so much time without some sort of compensation. An hour for hour compensation is not expected, but it really seems petty when the company deducts PPL time for a day off when the physician consistently works far beyond a 40 hour week.
