My car cuts off and now won't start on first try. I hear clicking noise under hood by dash and seems to lose power, and idles rough. Seems to burn a lot of gas.

If the CEL comes on and goes off after 2 seconds consistently, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil:

If the CEL stays on, the ECM is likely bad (perform the K-Test). From the sound you described, the ECM may be intermittently failing.

Also the car misses some and dies out if I don't put it in neutral at a stop. Could it be the distributor cap and wires?
