I just come back from our anniversary trip with my wife. However, I discover that I lost my small bag, which contained a SD card and a usb external flash drive of the recorded video. I think I've left the bag in the bus.

In the trip, I directly "CUT and PASTE" our video files from the SD Card to the USB exteral flash drive without saving the files into my portable computer (Window XP) (because of not enough space over internal harddisc).

Now, I have the following question.

1. Was it possible that during the process of "Cut and Paste" from SD card to USB exteranl flash drive, there were some video files left behind in my portable computer, so I can recover them now?

2. By means of the USB exteral flash drive, we watched the video through Quicktime in the trip. Was it possible that Quicktime has cached the video files somewher in the computer so I can recover them now?

Grateful for your help

Cut and past uses RAM so if the files will not fit int RAM virtual RAM is provisioned this space is written into a page file. There is a chance that the page files may still contain part or all of the video. By default paghe files are often overwritten, so all in all you are looking at a not too good chance.

Heartfully thank you for your answer.

If I have frequently browsed website (e.g. yahoo) in this week, how is the chance my video stored in pagefile will be overwritten by webpages?

Is it possible Quicktime caching up some of part of the video?

Thank you.

This is a very real danger also pagefiles should be cleared at shutdown though they often are not or just the FAT entry for the page file is cleared leaving the data on the drive but not indexed. Recovery from pager files needs to be done ASAP.
