If I run away from my mom and step dad in Nebraska and made it all the way to California to live in California what's going to happen when I get cought? They have me down as a missing person... will they take me all the way back to Nebraska? Or will Nebraska come get me... I know my dad won't, and I could live with my brother here in California. What will the courts do in California, put me on probation down here or something like that? Or will they send me back... need to know asap *** thank you

You will be sent back to live with the parent who has custody of you.

- or, if the parent gets an order that he/she can no longer control you you will be back in your home State in a juvenile facility.

It would be hard for you to get there, and you would be brought back into the care of the parent who has custody of you, which sounds like your mother.

So, all in all, you would be making a difficult and dangerous journey only to ultimately end up where you started. It would be better to try and restore your problems at home. Good luck

Running away is never the answer. Why don't you tell us a little more about what's going on and why you want to run away and maybe we can help you come up with more realistic and legal solutions.

The person who takes you in, that lives in California could be arrested or at least charged with anything from kidnapping to custody interference.

You will be taken back, most likely will go into Juv system first, held in detention where a hearing will decide if you will go home or not.

Okay so the deal is I just got off parole and my parents have been pushing me around and kicking me out of the house calling me a piece of **** and locking me out for days on end. So finally I left and went to live with my brother in California and now I'm just sitting around with nothing to do. I really don't want to go back to my moms house. At around 3 years old my mom left my dad and he had cancer... took everything frum him! She was smoking meth and had no house. So my aunt and uncle took custidy of me. Years went on... as my mother eventually got her own appt yrz later she married my step dad. Then my stepdad found out I have a trust found from when my dad died and decided to get custody of me.. blah blah blah they were nice for a while then started being mean. I went to jail for assault at school got out on probation... got a ticket and went bak to jail... then after 8 months got out and successfully completed parole. The whole time my mom and step dad were being nice because parole was involved. Now that I'm off parole and have nothing holding me in Nebraska but my parents I'm done with Nebraska. They lock me out and tell me to leave. My mom threw away all but 2 pairs of my clothes just to make me mad. And took my sterio system outa my truck and sold it while I was in jail. So I'm not happy with them... but I'm 17 yrs old. I just want to know if California will take me back to Nebraska or if Nebraska will com get me... usually it's the parents job to come... but if I go turn myself in here... what's going to happen when they call my mom and tell her? She said she wasn't going to come get me. So Nebraska police will have to? Or California police will take me their? Or will the police here just leave me here, and the judge let me stay here and hopefully give custody to my brother or aunt or uncle again? I APPRECIATE ALL THE INFO FROM EVERYONE THANK YOU SO MUCH

IF the people who have custody of you report you missing (including being a runaway) and IF the Police find you, yes, you will be returned to Nebraska.

Will anyone actually look for you? If not, there's no problem.

You can also get a job and a place to live and finish your education and apply to be emancipated. Then you're your own boss and can go wherever you want.

When will you turn 18? If you're 17 now you may very well reach the legal age of majority before any of this happens.

[B]Will the police be the ones to return me to Nebraska? Last time I ran I went to Nevada and got cought and they detained me for 2 days and told my dad he had to pick me up. I know califronia is a lot different so I was wondering will California take me back or will Nebraska come get me? I know my mom won't and neither will my step dad. So who will... if they don't will they make me a state ward in California and put me in a group home here? That's what I want.

Well my mom and step dad won't look for me and they won't pay anyone to look for me... will the police be looking for me? If I went into a dmv to get my license or sighned up for school to finish high school will they find me here? Or my job... u said they cannot find me threw the job rite? I will apply for emancipation as soon as I find a job and perm appt I pay 4 to show I can manage myself.

I just turned 17 on march 23rd so I got like another year almost till I'm 18. But isn't the legal age 18? I don't know if I will make it that long without getting cought. I have to sighn up for school here and finish high school I only need 30 more credits to graduate... should I do it online so they can't find me or do you guys think I'm good?

ANYONE ELSE THAT HAS ANY INFO TO OFFER ME OR HELP ME WITH I WILL TAKE PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT AS SOON AS I CAN I HATE BEING A RUNAWAY I WANT TO JUST BE LEGAL AND LIVE LIFE!!

I would just like to add at the end of the note I really appreciate you guys helping me threw this your info is very helpful and informative. So thank you to: JudyKayTee, Fr_Chuck, justcurious55 and J_9
