My son finished first grade. For the better time of the year he has been assesed to a slow reader and the school wanted to hold him back,he is doing very good in the other subjects, but only reading is gives him trouble.I don't fell he needs to held back,I think he can improve with extra help.

The teachers are the people with the knowledge and training to make these decisions. Why don't they think he can improve with extra help?

What extra help has he been getting this year?

My concern is if he passes with poor reading skills his grades are going to suffer until he ultimately graduates.

How far behind is he in reading? As Judy asked, what sort of support has he been receiving thus far? What sort of progress has he shown? Would you be able to provide tutoring for him over the summer? Does the school have a summer program he might be able to go into? How old is he and when is his birthday?
