I have a leak from the second floor shower to the downstairs ceiling. The shower wall is covered with tiles and I have a glass door. I called the contractors who built the 2nd floor in 2008. They said they'd fix it for me at no charge since it's a new construction and it was a big project they had done for me. This was a relief. However, it's already been two weeks and they have been lagging the process. They came over last Tuesday finally and have now opened up four holes so far: one in the downstairs ceiling, two in the upstairs bathroom in the wall behind the shower, and one from the outside of the house right where the shower knobs are. They can't figure out where the leak is coming from. They said it's not the plumbing. Now, they're saying it may be the tiles, right at the corner about 3/4 up the wall, where the tiles meet. They are telling me that they need to rip the tiles to repair this. Does this sound logical? Unfortunately, they had not left an opening for easy access when they originally built the shower. Should I ask for them to create this 'access' in case we have similar issues again? What if they go through the process of removing tiles and it still leaks? I've been waiting since Tuesday to hear back and still no update as to when to expect anyone to come over. I am so disappointed that I have this problem in less than 3 years since we built the second story. Any thoughts? Advice? What are my rights, if any? I am in California.
