The actual question I have is, are you suppose to be in bed for 8 hours or sleep for 8 hours, because it usually takes me 30 to 60 minutes to fall asleep. So if you were suppose to sleep for 8 hours then that would mean I would have to go to be in bed an hour longer...

Also I'm 19 years old, how many hours of bed/sleep whatever do I need? I'm trying to test how many hours of sleep I can get away with, as in, I'm trying to sleep as less as possible to have more time in the day... as of now I go to bed at 10 and wake up at 7:30, and am waking up 15 minutes earlier every day to train my body... So I'm trying to figure out at what point should I stop...

All answers appreciated thank you!

An adult should get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period; this includes napping. Don't make this rocket science, you will drive yourself nuts.

As we age we lose a natural sleep activator called melatonin, and as we get older the less sleep we need. I for one get 8 hours because I go to bed at 8 pm and get up at 5 am to start my day. Some times I like to use an over the counter sleep aid such as Nytol to get me to the sleep point if I am going to have a busy next day.

If you are going to bed at l0 and getting up around 7, that is a good nights sleep. Everyone has a short restless period before actual sleep occurs.

The recommended amount of sleep for different age groups is:-

Infants: 14 to 15 hours
Toddlers: 12 to 14 hours
School-age children: 10 to 11 hours
Adults: 7 to 9 hours
