My boyfriend was originally charged with aggravated assault in Michigan(25 years ago) but was reduced to something else. Does Canada look at the original charge or with what the results of going to court for? Thanks

You will have to explain what his reduced charge has to do with Canada. Is he planning on applying for citizenship, wanting to live here part time ? You two are planning to marry? Visiting and crossing the border ?

Hi. Thank you for responding back so quickly. Our first priority, we figured made the most sense, was for him to be able to visit and cross the border. Eventually we will be married. He also has a driving while impaired, so he is unable to apply for expungement. As well, in Michigan his driving while impaired will never disappear. He is going to apply for a pardon, but they are granted few and far between. Our thoughts are of applying for the Rehabilitation for persons who are inadmissible to Canada, as our first step. Not sure if this is the right thing to do. We are doing this all on our own, without a lawyer. I understand it can take quite some time to do this and some money. His first charge was 25 years ago, approx 10 years ago for the driving while impaired. Thanks.
