The leak is somewhere between the main drain at the bottom of the pool and where it comes out of the ground to meet the filter. PVc pipe. Is there way of repair without digging . It would require major excavation.

If this is an in ground pool then not likely. You might consider getting 3 bids from pool repairmen and see what they would do. I know we can reline 4" and larger sewer pipe but not sure this procedure works for you pipe which are likely 2"

There is a way to do so but it is not entirely reliable, I haven't done this personally but say the line is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. It could be possible to put a slightly smaller pipe into the damaged one and extend it all the way down to the main drain opening and seal it there and back at the filter cut oout the old line and connect the new one in. the problem is that you have to find a way to seal the main drain outlet so that water can only get into the new pipe.
I do want to ask you a question. How exactly did you determine that you have a leak? Who was the pool built by and how old is it?
