Hi I have a puppy who is 8 weeks old. She crys when we walk out the room. She slept on her first night from 9.30 till 5 on her own and she cried my husband went to her was that the right thing to do should we just leave her to cry?

I always keep new puppies in the bedroom with us. Not on the bed, but in a crate right next to it.

It is a very scary time for young pups, you have to remember they have gone from sleeping with their mom and all their brothers and sisters to being locked in a room alone.

I would move the crate to the bedroom, you can always move it later once the pup has settled in and learned that you are its new family.

Sorry, I read that completely wrong, similar situation, pup has gone from being with all its siblings to being alone.

I would give the pup lots of distractions before you leave the room, kongs with peanut butter, squeeky toys etc and when it cries just tell it "quiet" in a stern voice. Do not pick the pup up or pet it, just let it know that the crying is not on.

She will probably keep it up for a week or so until she settles but she will settle eventually.
