One of the first signs of hypothyroidism in newborn babies is high birth weight. Suppose that at a given hospital the average newborn birth weight for females is 121 ounces with a standard deviation of 9 ounces. A doctor knows that infants with hypothyroidism are always above the 90th percentile in birth weight.
