Well, in aviation the probabilty you will crash is a lot lower then the probability you will survive the flight.

Probability = (number of times an incident actually occurs) divided by (total number of opportunities for occurrence).

Using smoothy's example of aviation, if there are 500,000 flights that occur in a year, and there are 7 plane crashes, the probability of a crash is 7/500000 = 0.000014.

The probability of your flight leaving on time is almost the same.
