I'm trying to shut off the hot water supply to the house without having to drain the entire water heater tank because I have a leak in the hot water valve under the sink. I'd need to turn off the hot water to the house in order to replace the hot water valve for my sink. Please help, thanks.

Hi Lvelearn...

Guessing that you have a water heater that supplies your hot water, you should find a cold water shutoff at the cold water inlet to the water heater. You will want to turn the cold water shutoff off and that should stop hot water from flowing to the house.

You will then need to drain some hot water from the house system by opening the hot water side of a two handle faucet in the house. If you open any single lever faucets the cold water will cross over to the hot water tubing and will fill the hot water system again so it will be like you never shut the cold water into the water heater, OK?

Finally, when you turn the cold water supply back on to the water heater, be sure to remove the faucet aerators at the sink(s) when you purge the air from the pipes... keeps them from clogging up, OK?

Questions? Let me know...
