HI;
I have a hot tub that runs on 240volts and was working great for about 5 years. Recently, I had switched the breaker(which is a GFI 40amp double breaker) off because my son complained of the motor noise outside his window. When I went to switch it back on the hot tub did not work and no motor running. The breaker stayed on and did not trip so I measured the voltage and it read 120volts instead of 240volts(measured from red to black). The measurement from red or black to neautral was 120volts which I think is what is supposed to be. Could the breaker be bad? I took the wires out and reconnected them in case that was a problem but still reads 120volts. What can I do to fix this problem?
Thanks'
Jack

The breaker could be bad or the feed to the breaker. Do you have 240 anywhere else? Test the feed into the breaker not the line side

I have 240 running the hot water tank, dryer, stove and furnace. Not sure what you mean about testing the feed into the breaker, do you mean the wires or the terminals on the breaker itself?
Thanks
Jack

I am new at this and goofed at the response. I attempted to answer your question and ended up posting an answer to my own question!(which didn't answer anything of course). Anyway, yeah we have serveral items on 240v i.e. electric furnace, dryer, hwt, stove. How do I test the feed into the breaker?
Thanks
Jack

A Breaker has Line and Load Connections, 240 Volts should be at the Line side of the Breaker, and when turned on, you should have 240 volts out of the breaker.
If you Have 120 volts out of breaker, one half of breaker may not be resetting.
Try flipping breaker all the way off and back on.

Actually check for 240 at your spa pak(it's the board that controls the spa. You could have a bad transformer or a bad board please let me know what troubleshooting you have done.
