I think I have a foot valve problem but I am not for sure. My problem started like this:
First my pump would run till it reached the desired pressure (50 psi). Then it would slowly lose pressure and kick back on. This would happen only occasionally, half of the time I had no issues. Then after a couple weeks it started to happen more frequently, and faster, I would lose pressure faster then it would kick pump on, race to 50 psi and shut off, then 5 minutes later pressure would fall and so on. Now my problem has changed, the pump is running constantly and will not shut off. It runs at 48 psi and never shuts off. And if it does shut off it losses all pressure instantly. Can someone please help me with my problem. I think it is a foot valve problem but now I'm not sure. Thanks.

Could be foot valve problem but sounds more like a leaking well pipe.

Make sure it's not your pressure tank. When they wear out they can have similar issue.

Not likely to be a tank issue. If it leaks down once the pump turns off, then it is either a leaking footvalve or leaking wellpipe, as HK noted earlier.

May sound silly to say, but we are all assuming that, with your mention of a footvalve, your pump is above ground.

There is a simple solution to a leaky foot valve that doesn't involve pulling the well point. Install a check valve on the suction line just before the pump. Sound like a plan? Regards, Tom
