I read at one time he was influenced or tried to follow Judaism. Can't remember the book... but makes sense.

Hunafaa existed at that time. They were not among those, who worshipped idols, but they worshipped Allaah Alone. They were from those, who were more near to being upon what their father Ibraahiim -`aleihis-Salaam- was upon. Muhammad -sAaws- was a Haniif. And Allaah knows best.
You can learn more by studying Serahs, as all muslims should.
He was always upon fitrah upon which Allaah created all who are born, and fitrah is Islam. What do you think of the one -sAaws- whose heart was taken out of his cheast by Jibriil -Aleihis-Salaam- when he was still a baby, and it was washed with nuur? What do you think? Was he ever misguided, when Allaah had taken all impurity away from him? No, my friend. He has always been a muslim.
