My 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback is not starting up. The ECU reads code 16 so I figured it was the main relay. I can hear two clicks, but the third one is missing. Also the battery light is on when I turn the key in the ignition. If I crank the keys for about 5 seconds, the car does start, but its jerky. I removed the coin holder, fuse box, and hood latch, but I can't unscrew the bolt no matter how hard I try. I don't want to strip the bolt so I was wondering if there is an alternative solution to my problem?

. Remove and fully charge the battery. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.

. Change the fuel filter, if it has not been changed in 60,000 miles or 48 months.

. Slip the relay off the old bracket and slip the new one on. Analyze the new main relay, to see if this will work.

. Clean the main ECM ground, located on the thermostat housing. Look for a 3-wire brass connector.

. Check the fuel injectors.
