The when toilet is flushed it fills with water. Then the toilet takes several minutes to drain slowly. I tried everything so far that's safe. There doesn't seem to be any real blockage, but it doesn't sound like the colon entrance is being reached by the flush water. Wondering what to do, or negotiate getting a new toilet with the landlord. This is a really really old apartment. Help.

Colon entrance? Never heard that term. If the bowl fills quickly, there is most likely a blockage in the toilet or line. Has the LL plunged the toilet? Start with that and if it doesn't help, make sure the holes under the rim are open. Have someone clean them out with a paper clip or small probe. If that fails, they will probably have to run a machine to clean out the drain.

You said the magic word (not colon) landlord. This is his job to fix not yours. Tell him he has a backup in HIS TOILET and you are afraid it will overflow and ruin the apartment. Most renters on have a plunger if that. This may require a toilet auger or full rodding but it all on the shoulders to the LL.. Be sure to mention your fear of overflow

Bob, ever heard the term COLON entrance, other than biologically? You know, it does sort of look like a colon!
