I have a Craftsman Model 139.18054 Garage Door Opener and the light has been working since it was (professionally) installed 7 or so years ago and up to last Monday when I had a new garage door installed. The installer said they did not do any thing to the unit except attach new safety sensors and wires... Now the light does not go on when the door opens or closes up, nor when the sensor is tripped as it once did. The new sensors are working properly (but I notice I no longer get a "clicking" noise when walking past the sensors - they were replaced with a non stock sensor)... The only thing the installer says is that because this is an older unit this can happen... Is there an internal light switch or something that was inadvertently deactivated to cause the light not to work any more? Oh and for the record, I have changed the bulb with one that I made sure was working... Still nothing...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Peter.

Can you get a schematic for the garage door opener and attach it to this post, please?

Hi Don,

Thanks for your response...

Here's a PDF of the manual, that's the best I can do. I can't find a wiring schematic...

I think the solution is with original sensors as that is the only thing the installer changed... I will go to my neighborhood Sears store and see if they have them in stock (if they don't work H can always return them), if not I'll try somewhere else. If you can offer any other potential solutions, let me know...

Thanks,

Peter

My immediate suspicion is that there is a contact tab that has been broken off.

When the chain moves in either direction this contact should make and power up the light.

The contact can be any one of a dozen things. Metal contact straps, a solenoid, a relay so forth and so on.

Hey, one more silly question, have you changed the bulb?

The PDF file is about installation, there is no schematic. Check with Sears, they may have it online.

Yeah changing the bulb was the 1st thing I did... I even made sure the replacement bulb worked ;-)

Hmmm, OK I'll see if I can get a schematic from Sears...

Don, I don't think that is the case as the light "used" to go on when the door was up and someone walked across the safety beam so no movement. The other thing... When this happened (crossing the beam) there was an audible "click"... As I mentioned, the only thing the installer changed was the sensors to a non craftsman sensor.

Do you have the owners manual. The light can be set to come on or not when the door beam is broken. When this function is turned off the light will not come on when the door is opened. If you can't find owners manual let me know, I'll look for mine.

Are you certain about model number? Does not come up on search of Sears.com

No where in the manual, that I can find does it say how to do this...

Figured it out! Can't use compact fluorescent, must use standard bulb! Duh!
