Hi,
I have a question. I am a F-1 student but a resident for tax purposes. However, as I am looking to file my taxes this year I noticed something from my earlier returns. I file my returns using Turbotax and saw that I received the 2008 $300 rebate. I didn't realize it was rebate until recent but my regular tax refund. Should I amend my return? I am confused and do not want to get penalized for an honest mistake?

Yes, you need to amend the return IF 2008 was during the period you were considered to be a non-resident alien.

If you were past the five-year mark in 2008, then no amendment is required.
