I'm 15 and live in Louisiana. I'm pregnant and I've been told that I'm automatically emancipated because of my pregnancy. My doctor is the one who told me this, but how would I get proof of emancipation? If I truly am emancipated.
You are not emancipated in the way you are thinking you are.
What your doctor means is that you, now that you are pregnant, have the right to make decisions regarding the health of you and your unborn child.
You will be totally and completely responsible for the health decisions of your baby once it is born.
It's kind of like this:
If you get into a car accident, for example, your parents have to sign for your treatment at the hospital.
However, when you are in labor having the baby, all decisions you make are yours alone. You will sign the consent forms, you will be the one to make the decision if you want the epidural, if your baby is a boy you will make the decision whether to circumcise, etc.
