I had a septic tank company come yesterday & pump our tank. Not only did they charge us $150 more than we were originally told, they cut our gas line. My husband was not happy with this & he called them. They told him that they should've charged more because of cutting the gas line(because it took longer & was more work)... SERIOUSLY! After all this, they told me that we were going to have major problems with our field lines... we have never had any problems. My question is, could his machine that he used to dig have caused damage to the lines? He was parked right on top of where the field lines run.

If he cut your gas line it is his problem.
Why was he doing any digging to pump the tank. If he was going to dig he should have called before hand to have the location of underground utilities marked. This is a legal requirement in almost all areas of the country.
Who made the repairs to the gas line. I seriously doubt that some one pumping septic tanks is qualified to make repair to gas lines. An underground gas leak is not something you want to have.
Some one pumping septic tanks who parks on the distribution line makes me question not only his qualifications but also his intelligence. Those trucks are heavy when full.

My question is why did you pay him more than he quoted? If they said a total of $150, going rate most places, then you just give him a check for $150 no matter what he says. My next question is if you know where your field was located did you tell him? Yes the weight of his truck could compromise your field but please tell us what issues you had that made you call the septic pumper to start with.
