I am 24 year old student living in Ontario.. I worked as a loss prevention investigator at sears. Someone was stealing money out of our lost and found( and honestly it was not me). So I told my boss.. They ended up putting a hidden camera in the office with a wallet with 45$ in cash and 4$ in change. Knownody was supposed to know the wallet was fake, but when the wallet came in to me, I went through it to look for an ID, I noticed there were papers from our office in it. So I reviewed footage to see where it came from and I noticed and employee putting gift cards etc in it, so I realized what it was for. I was at work and I was sick so I took 4$ in change to buy food because I thought it would
Help with the sickness and I was going to replace it the next day( which I did after I got caught).. It was a very stupid thing I did, I know I could have done other things like ask to borrow money but I was not thinking. And I really regret it. So my boss and the internal investigator wanted to talk to me. When they put the wallet on the table, I immeditatley told them I borrowed the 4$ and was going to replace it. They then arrested, pressed charges and I was fired. I even wrote a statement, I explained I was sick( I know it doesn't matter) but I also explained that I lt wasn't me who took the other money. The next day I went and paid everything back and got a receipt. They even went after me for civil recovery which they asked me to pay 875.00.. so I borrowed money from a friend so I could pay it, I have been completely cooperative. I have never been in trouble with the police in my life, I also heard stealing from an employee is bad because it's considered to be a breach of trust. So I have to go for finger prints on Monday then the following Monday I have my first court date. Can someone please help me and let me know what could happen, I keep thinking I'm going to jail, and it's driving me up te wall, I can't even sleep at night, because I have been thinking of what I did. So can someone please help me.

You paid $875? I would have asked for a polygraph, even if it is not admissible.
Unfortunately you are stuck with this now, all over $4.
Knowing the wallet was a trap yet borrowing from it makes NO sense at all. Nor does needing $4; did you really go to work with so little money on you? Nor does needing food for being sick. Nor does them filling the wallet in front of a surveillance camera. Nor does planting a wallet that 'came into you' with 'papers from your office' so you would know. NONE of this makes sense. If you feel you can document any of it to make sense, hire a lawyer to help you.

I know it makes no sense, yes 875. When we arrest people, sears goes after them for 500$ but because I was an employee the added 375.I honestly messed up huge, my story is 100% true. No I really didn't have money or I wouldn't have taken it, I didn't know about the camera, but for some stupid reason because it was there for that reason I thought I would be able to just borrow the 4$ and pay it back the next day when I got paid. Which I did.I know taking money with out asking is stealing but I cleary wasn't thinking, I just wanted to get better. I spoke with a lawyer and he said my circumstance is mitigating. And another told me to get a doctors note saying I was sick( which I did also) he said it was hyperglycemia. But I don't know, I honestly can't even sleep I'm so worried about this.

Ceffy13! If you are going to give a convincing explanation, you have to make sense, and you still aren't making any at all. You just said that you didn't know about the camera, and in the same sentence you said that you thought it was OK to borrow $4 because the camera was there. Do you see how garbled and senseless every sentence has been?
I'm not interested in judging you or harming you. I'm just hoping you can tell this without making yourself sound worse.
PS: You won't go to jail, and you'll have one court appearance.

Your story makes no sense. That having been said you will make your first appearance in Court, you will be given a second date to enter a plea, you will undoubtedly be given a fine, some sort of community service, a harsh warning. I don't see jail time IF you are telling the truth here.

I do understand that what you have stated is the policy of Sears.

I don't know that a medical diagnosis is going to help you. I can't think of any illness that forces a person to steal.

This will, however, be on your permanent record.

Yes, if you give that story in court they will "throw away the key" get an attorney and follow their instruction.

You were in a position of trust, and violated it. That is even worst.

Next you can borrow 800 plus dollars but you had to steal 4 dollars.

You will most likely get a court fine and a probation.

Hello C:

Hopefully you can stop payment on the THEFT they committed against you. Why did you pay their RIPOFF recovery fee??
