Hi Everyone, during high school (early 90s) I started reading a fantasy book and never finished it.

The hero of the story was a woman/girl who could talk to animals and was a warrior I believe. One of the sub-characters was a prince or noble who always believed that if he could meet a girl like her then he could really talk to her.

They get trapped in the forest during a rainstorm and he finds out that she is the girl he wanted to meet.

This was during the first few chapters which was as far as I got.

Can anyone out there help me?

I tried searching on Amazon by date and authors who I thought it could be, but no luck.
